The Marche of Gwyntarian is the Akron/Kent area chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a non-profit (501c) organization dedicated to researching and recreating life in the Middle Ages. The SCA has approximately 30,000 menbers all around the world.

Meetings: Gwyntarian is located in Akron, Ohio, and draws its membership from Portage and Summit counties in Northeastern Ohio. We meet every Thursday at 7:45 pm, at the Akron Turner Club (547 Munroe Falls Rd., Tallmadge, Ohio). On the last Friday of each month we hold special Arts & Sciences workshops at Fred Fuller Park on Middlebury Road in Kent, Ohio.

History: Gwyntarian was founded in A.S. 9, (1974) and is part of the Barony of Brendoken, in the Kingdom of the Midrealm. Originally begun at Kent State University, the name Gwyntarian is Welsh for “White Shield.” Gwyntarian was originally a Marche (smaller local group) in the Barony of the Middle Marches (a region comprised of several counties of Eastern Ohio). Today Gwyntarian is one of four groups making up Brendoken, a confederation style Barony (one which has no central group). Gwyntarian has many activities including: full contact armored combat, rapier (fencing) combat, archery, brewing and vinting (wine-making), costuming, and many other arts and sciences of the Middle Ages.
