The Marche of Gwyntarian is the Akron/Kent area chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a non-profit (501c) organization dedicated to researching and recreating life in the Middle Ages. The SCA has approximately 60,000 participants all around the world.

Gwyntarian was founded in A.S. 9, (1974) and is part of the Barony of Brendoken, in the Kingdom of the Midrealm. Originally begun at Kent State University, the group now meets in Akron. The name Gwyntarian is Welsh for “White Shield.” Gwyntarian was originally a Marche (smaller local group) in the Barony of the Middle Marches (a region comprised of several counties of Eastern Ohio). Today Gwyntarian is one of four groups making up Brendoken, a confederation style Barony (one having no central group). Gwyntarian draws its membership from Portage and Summit counties in Northeastern Ohio. Gwyntarian has many activities including: full contact armored combat, rapier (fencing) combat, archery, brewing and vinting (wine-making), costuming, and many other arts and sciences of the Middle Ages.

If you are interested in the Society for Creative Anachronism, or want to learn more about life in the Middle Ages we invite you to come to our meetings. We meet every Thursday at 7:45 pm at the Akron Turner Club, 547 Munroe Falls Road, Tallmadge, Ohio.
